BD-JB stopped working after reinstalling the firmware

Medium risk✓ Proven

What you see

  • The BD-JB access you had set up is gone after reinstalling the system software.

What it means

On 13.60, BD-JB5 only works after the bdj_unpatch step. The BD-JB5 README warns not to reinstall the firmware, because that wipes the patch and you lose BD-JB. So access you had prepared can be gone after a reinstall of the system software.

What to do

Check whether the patch was removed

The project warns that reinstalling the firmware wipes the patch. If BD-JB stopped working right after a reinstall, that is the likely reason.

If you have another compatible way in, plan the setup through it

The unpatch step needs a console that is already jailbroken, so it depends on having another entry point that works on your firmware.

When to stop

Do not count on the patch surviving

Do not assume the patch survives a firmware reinstall, or that you can apply it again without another way in. A reinstall can cost you BD-JB.
