Risks
Read this before you follow any tutorial. It is short on purpose.
Stay offline
Do not sign in to PSN, and do not leave the console online, while it is jailbroken. Using PSN on a modified console can get the console or the account banned, and this guide cannot undo a ban. If you see error WS-116332-6, read what it means.
Do not update
Every jailbreak works only on specific firmware versions. Updating can close it for your console, and you cannot count on going back.
Sony shows the automatic update options here. Leave both unchecked: "Download Update Files Automatically" and "Install Update Files Automatically".
- Settings
- System
- System Software
- System Software Update and Settings
Sony also says rest mode needs "Stay Connected to the Internet" for automatic updates. Leave it unchecked too:
- Settings
- System
- Power Saving
- Features Available in Rest Mode
Sony's page explains how to turn these options on; turning them off is unchecking the same options. Source: Sony
- Ignore every update prompt, including ones that show up when you insert a disc or open an app.
Safe Mode: what erases your data
- ✓ Proven "Reset PS5" and "Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software)" delete all user data. [Sony: Safe Mode (en-us)]
- ✓ Proven "Repair Console Storage" does not erase data, and "Restore Default Settings" keeps your games and saves. [Sony: Safe Mode (en-us)]
- "Update System Software" and "Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software)" install system software, so they can cost you the version your jailbreak needs.
Protect your data
- Back up your saves before you start.
- Never unplug the console while it is writing data: updating, installing or copying.
- If something looks wrong, stop. Look it up in common errors before you try again.
Warranty and terms
Jailbreaking goes against Sony's terms of use and may void your warranty. You do it on your own console and at your own risk.
Safe Mode and firmware downloads
If your console boots into Safe Mode and asks for a system software update, you do NOT have to install the latest firmware. You can reinstall the same version (or any other) from a USB drive:
- Download the firmware file for your version from Darthsternie's PS5 firmware archive.
- Format a USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT.
- Create the folder path
PS5/UPDATE/on the USB drive. - Copy the downloaded file into that folder and rename it to
PS5UPDATE.PUP. - Plug the USB drive into the console while it is in Safe Mode.
- Choose "Update System Software" → "Update from USB Storage Device".
If Safe Mode asks to "Reinstall System Software" (option 7), you need the full installation file instead. Darthsternie provides both versions — the update file and the full reinstall file. Check which one you need before downloading.

- Nobody sells a jailbreak. A donation supports a developer; it never unlocks anything.
- Never run a program on your PC that promises to jailbreak your PS5.
- Only use the repositories listed on this guide, and only from their official GitHub page.
