The console freezes or stops responding

Medium risk

What you see

  • The power indicator only blinks white, or stays blue and never turns solid white.
  • The screen and the controller stop responding.

What it means

Sony says a power indicator that only blinks white, or stays blue, means the console is frozen. It can also happen during a jailbreak attempt: the Relapse README warns the console may hang and says to restart before trying again.

What to do

Unplug the console

Wait 3 minutes, plug it back in and turn it on

Restart before you try the jailbreak again

When to stop

Do not jump to a reinstall

If it keeps happening, Sony's next step is to reinstall the system software in Safe Mode. Sony says that deletes all user data and removes the system software, so you can lose the version your jailbreak needs. Back up your saves first, and only do it if you need the console working more than the jailbreak.

If the console freezes when you are not trying a jailbreak, stop using the jailbreak until you know why.
