YouTube or BD-J opens, but the jailbreak is not complete
Low risk✓ ProvenWhat you see
- The entry point runs code, but the features you expect are not there.
What it means
This is about the Y2JB (YouTube) and BD-JB5 (Blu-ray Java) entry points. The entry is only the first stage of the chain. Opening the entry app does not prove that the whole chain ran.
What to do
Find the last stage that finished
The stages are the entry, the kernel exploit, the loader and the payload. For example, the Y2JB README says that after the Lapse payload succeeds, you still need to send the HEN or another ELF to port 9021.
Check which component still has to be loaded
Each entry has its own requirements. For example, the BD-JB5 README says that on 13.60 and higher you need a console that is already jailbroken.
A kernel exploit that worked is also not the same as a ready homebrew setup. If apps still do not open, go through the next steps.
After a restart, run the exploit again and check the loader is up
The onionHEN README says it does not include a kernel exploit: you first run the kernel exploit and start an elfldr listening on port 9021, and only then send the HEN.
Load one compatible HEN once and let it finish starting
For example, the onionHEN README says it starts the utility daemon, kstuff and the main daemon in that order. If the Toolbox does not appear, wait for that to finish and check the logs.
For games or apps from a folder or image, load ShadowMount+ and wait
The ShadowMount+ README says it needs kstuff (kstuff-lite v1.07 or later), shows a ShadowMount+ notification when it starts, and shows registration notifications such as Register failed. With a large library, the first scan can take a few seconds.
Check what is running
The Payload Manager README says it can show the active processes, so you can see what is actually loaded.
Test an app you know works, without the overlay, and keep the logs
The onionHEN README lists an overlay.enabled option to turn the in-game overlay off. If the error keeps coming back, the README asks reports to include the firmware, the exploit host, the logs and the steps to reproduce it.
When to stop
A userland test is not a full jailbreak
A userland test does not prove kernel support, or that a HEN is compatible with your setup.
Do not ignore a system error that keeps coming back just because a notification said the jailbreak worked. There is no single fix for every homebrew app.
