The jailbreak stops working after a reset or restore

What it means
After a factory reset or a restore, the settings and files the jailbreak needs may be gone: browser settings, the network setup, automatic update settings, the entry app and your payloads. This page is a checklist to set them up again. It is a diagnostic order, not a documented fix.
What to do
Check that JavaScript is on in the browser the host uses
As a check, make sure JavaScript is turned on. One user report says an empty progress bar on a WebKit host went away after turning it on. That is a single report, not proof that this is the cause on every host.
Set up the network connection again
The Y2JB Autoloader README says Relapse needs an active network interface: Wi-Fi or a cable connected to a local network, without needing internet access. On 10.20–13.60 it is required.
Turn automatic updates off again
As a check, open this menu and make sure "Download Update Files Automatically" and "Install Update Files Automatically" are not selected.

Install the entry app and payloads for your firmware again
For example, the Y2JB Autoloader README lists which YouTube version goes with each firmware range, and says download0.dat goes in /user/download/PPSA0165*/.
Set up Payload Manager again
The Payload Manager README says recent autoloaders include pldmgr.elf as the default payload, and that it can also be loaded manually like any other .elf file.
Test without your old settings first
As a check, test the host with a fresh setup before you copy old configuration files back. If it works, add your old settings back one at a time.
When to stop
A reset does not pick your firmware
Do not count on a reset or restore to change the firmware version. Check the version in Console Information before you choose payloads. Turning on JavaScript fixed one report, but an empty progress bar does not prove that cause on every host.
