A game or app will not uninstall or keeps its icon
Risk of data loss✓ ProvenWhat you see
- You try to delete a game or app and it fails with an error, or the icon stays on the Home screen.
- The console may restart or show an error such as CE-118883-9 during the uninstall.
What it means
On a jailbroken console, a title can come from different places: a package installed into the system, a homebrew, or a game image from your own backup that ShadowMountPlus mounts and registers. Each one is removed in a different way. The icon on the Home screen, the file in storage and the save data are three separate things, so removing one does not remove the others.
What to do
Work out what kind of content it is
ShadowMountPlus mounts game folders and image files (.ffpkg, .exfat, .ffpfs, .ffpfsc). A .pkg is different: it goes through the system installer. Remove each one through the tool that put it there.
Know what ShadowMountPlus does when the source is gone
By default it does not remove a game from the library when its file disappears (auto_remove_missing_games=0). With auto_remove_missing_games=1, it removes the game once the file has been missing for auto_remove_missing_delay_seconds (300 by default), and cancels the removal if the file comes back. Games with installed DLC also need auto_remove_games_with_dlc=1.
If the entry is stuck, remove the icon and the Itemzflow entry
ShadowMountPlus's troubleshooting suggests removing the launcher icon and removing the title from Itemzflow when it does not register correctly.
Keep your saves out of it
ShadowMountPlus warns that removing the game data from the system settings deletes the game's saves. Back up your saves before you do it.
As a check, look at the icon, the file and the saves one by one
After removing something, check each of the three separately. A file left in a scan path can be found and registered again by the scanner.
When to stop
Removing the icon is not removing the file
Deleting the icon does not necessarily delete the image in storage, and deleting game data deletes saves. Check what you are removing before you confirm.
No confirmed fix for some errors
For error CE-118883-9, or a console that restarts while you uninstall, this research found no specific confirmed fix.
