PS5SX2 and PS5SX3 on the same console
Risk of data loss✓ ProvenWhat you see
- You have both PS5SX2 and PS5SX3, and a disc opens in the wrong one.
- Installing one app seems to replace or break the other.
What it means
PS5SX2 (PS2) and PS5SX3 are separate emulator apps for your own discs and games. The PS5SX2 2.20 release (build vk-285-182) says the two now work side by side: a PS2 disc goes to PS5SX2, and any other disc is left to PS5SX3. For that, PS5SX3 must be TB19.1 or newer. The release notes do not describe how older builds behave together. The basic emulator setup is in the retro emulators guide.
What to do
Check your PS5SX2 version
Side-by-side support comes with PS5SX2 2.20 (build vk-285-182). To update from inside the app: on the shelf, press Square, then go to All games, PS5SX2, System update.
Check your PS5SX3 version
The release asks for PS5SX3 TB19.1 or newer.
Insert a disc and check which app takes it
A PS2 disc should go to PS5SX2. Any other disc is left to PS5SX3.
When to stop
If one app replaced the other
Updating PS5SX2 does not bring back an app folder that another install overwrote. Find out which conflict happened before you change anything. Before you accept to uninstall or replace an app, copy its data to a PC or a USB drive (for PS5SX2, the /data/PCSX2 folder). Never update the console firmware to fix an emulator.
