The console does not read discs after the jailbreak
Low riskWhat you see
- The drive does not read a DVD or a disc that worked before.
- Only the BD-J exploit disc fails, or every disc fails.
What it means
When a disc does not read on a jailbroken console, the cause can be the drive itself, a drive that is not paired, or the state of a BD-J patch. These are different problems. This page helps you tell them apart. It is a diagnostic order, not a documented fix.
What to do
Test a disc you know works
As a check, put the disc in the right way up, and also try another type of disc.
If your drive is removable, check that it is paired
Sony says the removable drive is for the CFI-2000/7000 models and must be paired online at setup. See The disc drive needs to be paired online.
For BD-J, check the patch state and restart between tests
As a check, find out whether the BD-J port you use is patched or unpatched, and restart the console before each test. See A BD-J disc shows a black screen or stopped working.
If normal discs fail too, treat it as hardware
As a check, if games or videos on disc also fail, contact PlayStation Support about the drive.
When to stop
Different discs, different paths
A video DVD, a game disc and an exploit disc go through different paths in the console. No payload is a universal fix for the drive. If normal discs also fail, follow Sony's support for the hardware.
